Senior Companion Spotlight
Billie Mason joined the Senior Companion program in the second class of volunteers in January of 2004. Since then she was been a busy lady. At the end of 2007 she received the Lifetime Presidential Service Award for volunteering 4,000 hours in this program. But Billie did not stop just because she received a reward; she kept on working and now has more than 7,000 hours of service. Billie has 4 homebound elderly clients that she takes to run errands and to their doctor’s appointments, but most importantly she provides companionship. She takes a couple of clients to the Southeast Senior Center were they can enjoy a hot lunch and play Bingo together. “I wish I could clone her twice over,” Senior Companion Director Jannee Banner said.
